Description

Forget the $900 pasture-find XJ you just dragged home. This isn't a budget boost kit, and it isn't designed for mall crawlers. Rusty's Long Travel XJ Suspension System was engineered from the ground up for serious prerunners, desert runners, and budget race vehicles that are built to cover ground at speed and survive punishment that would destroy ordinary suspension systems.

Developed with the input of motocross legend and professional racer Ricky Johnson, this system has been tested in some of the harshest off-road environments imaginable. When he's not racing, Ricky trains U.S. military personnel in advanced off-road driving techniques, and numerous training vehicles utilize variations of this suspension system. Off-road racing champion Scott Douglas also played a key role in the development of this package, helping refine not only this system but many products throughout Rusty's performance lineup.

Every build starts with your choice of Radius Arm, 3-Link, 4-Link, or Competition 4-Link long-travel suspension configurations, allowing you to tailor the system to your specific goals. Whether you're building a high-speed desert machine, an ultra-capable trail rig, or a race vehicle, Rusty's has a configuration to match.

For serious prerunning and high-speed off-road abuse, our preferred setups are the 4-Link and Competition 4-Link systems. The Competition 4-Link utilizes massive 1-1/4-inch adjustable heim joints for maximum articulation, precise suspension control, and race-proven durability. The standard 4-Link features Rusty's Forged Flex Joints, combining incredible strength, rebuildability, and long service life. Lower control arms are constructed from massive 2-inch DOM tubing, while the uppers use 1.5-inch DOM tubing to withstand the extreme loads generated during aggressive off-road driving.

At the heart of the system is Rusty's heavy-duty 3-piece crossmember, precision-built from 1/4-inch laser-cut steel and featuring a removable center section for easier service and maintenance. Massive CNC-formed frame reinforcement brackets sandwich the unibody from both the inside and outside, transforming the factory structure into a single reinforced unit capable of handling years of hard landings, rough terrain, and relentless abuse.

Unlike many long-arm systems that simply bolt onto the vehicle, Rusty's distributes suspension loads across a much larger section of the unibody, dramatically increasing strength and durability while maintaining excellent ground clearance. The design even incorporates transfer case drop provisions to help improve driveline angles without sacrificing performance.

Out back, Rusty's exclusive JeepSpeed-inspired 10-leaf spring packs deliver the performance serious off-road drivers demand. Designed to function much like a progressive-rate coil spring, these packs provide exceptional ride quality, control, and bottom-out resistance. Diamond-tapered leaves and nylon anti-friction pads minimize binding and maximize suspension movement, while military-wrapped main eyes add the strength needed to survive years of punishment from whoops, rocks, ditches, and hard landings.

Up front, Rusty's proven 6.5-inch lift coil springs deliver massive wheel travel, excellent ride quality, and the durability racers have trusted for more than three decades. Manufactured in the USA, these springs have proven themselves on countless prerunners, race vehicles, and hardcore trail rigs.

To keep everything tracking straight at speed, the system includes a heavy-duty adjustable track bar constructed from 1.5-inch DOM tubing, available with your choice of performance bushings or heim joints. A reinforced 1/4-inch steel frame-side mount and brace eliminate flex and provide precise steering control when the terrain gets rough.

Every component in this system was selected with durability in mind. Stainless-steel braided brake lines, massive Boomerang Race Shackles, a dropped pitman arm, Grade 8 hardware, and premium polyurethane bushings ensure the suspension performs as well after years of abuse as it did on day one.

This isn't a lift kit. It's the foundation for a high-speed off-road weapon.

NOTE: When lifting the XJ Cherokee 6 inches or more, Rusty's highly recommends the use of a Slip Yoke Eliminator Kit to prevent driveline vibrations. This is available for only the NP231 and NP242 transfer cases. We also offer a Combo Kit that includes a quality CV driveshaft built by Tom Woods Driveline.

NOTE: 2000-2001 Jeep XJ Cherokee models require the use of Part# 52001180 Transmission Mount to be installed with this suspension system.
